Chris Judge

Douglas Christopher Judge was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, with African-American and Cherokee ancestry. From a young age, Judge aspired to be an actor, driven by a desire to evoke emotions in others. He pursued sports as a pathway to his acting career, attending the University of Oregon on a football scholarship. During his time at Oregon from 1982 to 1985, Judge played defensive back and safety, leading in kickoff return yardage for 1983-84 and interceptions in 1984. He earned the Casanova Award in 1982, recognizing him as the freshman or newcomer of the year. Judge was also a three-time All-American and a Pacific-10 Conference Selection in 1984, culminating in his participation in the 1985 Hula Bowl. Academically, he shifted from pre-med to psychology, eventually focusing on telecommunications and film with a minor in psychology. His senior year saw him host the West Coast Fox KLSR Morning Show after winning a regional contest, an experience he leveraged to secure an agent and relocate to Los Angeles.

In 1989, Judge commenced formal acting training at the Howard Fine Institute in Los Angeles. Early film and television credits in the 1990s include “Bird on a Wire” (1990), “Cadence” (1990), “Neon Rider” (1989), and “MacGyver” (1985), where he worked alongside future “Stargate SG-1” co-star Richard Dean Anderson. His television appearances expanded to include “21 Jump Street” (1987), “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” (1990), and a recurring role on “Sirens” from 1994 to 1995. A pivotal career moment arrived in 1997 with his casting as Teal’c in the military science fiction series “Stargate SG-1”. Judge secured this role after an assertive pursuit, reading for a part that had significant competition. He maintained a consistent presence throughout the series, appearing in the most episodes among the cast. In addition to acting, Judge contributed to “Stargate SG-1” as a writer for four episodes: “The Warrior” (2002), “The Changeling” (2003), “Birthright” (2003), and “Sacrifices” (2004).

Post-“Stargate SG-1”, Judge continued his acting career with guest spots on “Andromeda” (2000), “Stargate: Atlantis” (2004), and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (2010), among others. His film work includes “Snow Dogs” (2002), “A Dog’s Breakfast” (2007), and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012), where he played a mercenary assassin. Judge also established himself in voice acting, lending his voice to Magneto in “X-Men: Evolution” (2000-2003), D-Mob in “Def Jam Vendetta” (2003) and “Def Jam: Fight for NY” (2004), and Jericho in “Turok” (2008). A significant achievement came in 2018 when he took on the role of Kratos in the “God of War” video game, a role he reprised in “God of War Ragnarök” (2022). His performance as Kratos earned him critical acclaim, including a BAFTA Award for Performer in a Leading Role in 2023 and the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2022. Judge’s career demonstrates a sustained engagement across diverse media, reflecting his versatility and consistent professional output.
