Born Cristina Ochoa Lopez in Barcelona, Spain, on January 25, 1985, Christina Ochoa grew up immersed in both scientific and artistic environments. She is the daughter of Spanish sculptor Victor Ochoa and the grandniece of Nobel Prize winner Severo Ochoa. This early exposure to varied disciplines shaped her unique career path. Her academic journey began with studies in Oceanographic Engineering at Las Palmas University in the Canary Islands, followed by advanced Marine Biology at James Cook University in Australia, where her research focused on Elasmobranchii, including sharks and rays. She also pursued particle physics at Universidad Nacional de Educacion a Distancia (UNED) before transitioning to a full-time acting career.
Ochoa’s acting career has spanned various television and film projects. She gained recognition for her roles as Renn Randall in TNT’s “Animal Kingdom” (2016–2022), Grace d’Argento in SyFy’s “Blood Drive” (2017), and Nora Madani in The CW’s “Valor” (2017–2018). Her television credits also include “A Million Little Things” (2018–2019) on ABC, where she played Ashley Morales, and Veronica Sandoval in “Promised Land” (2022). In film, she has appeared in “Cats Dancing on Jupiter” (2011), “Boon” (2022), “MVP” (2022), and “Fight Another Day” (2024). Beyond her on-screen work, Ochoa is a writer, with articles published in Vogue Spain and a monthly film column in El Imparcial.
Demonstrating her commitment to science communication, Ochoa is a member of Mensa and actively promotes scientific literacy. She serves on the advisory boards for OCEANA and Earths Oceans. She hosts the “Know Brainer” podcast and has delivered keynotes at scientific conferences, including the college prep program MESA. She has also hosted shows like Bitesize TV’s “Chaotic Awesome” and “NERD ALERT” on The Young Turks network. Ochoa is involved with the Los Angeles Committee for Science for Society, which sponsors the Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), and she served as a commentator for ISEF 2017. She has also made guest appearances on scientific comedy podcasts such as “Professor Blastoff” and Cara Santa Maria’s “Talk Nerdy.”
