David Robinson

David Robinson is a decorated former NBA player and two-time Olympic gold medalist, who has since transitioned into a prominent philanthropist and venture capitalist. After winning both the prestigious Naismith and Wooden Awards as a consensus All-American in 1987, David Robinson was drafted as the first overall pick in the 1987 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs. Following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy and fulfilling a two-year active-duty obligation as a civil engineering officer at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Robinson joined the Spurs for the 1989-90 season. He immediately led the team to a significant turnaround, earning the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 1990 and marking the start of his illustrious professional career entirely with the San Antonio Spurs, where he was affectionately known as ‘the Admiral.’ Robinson’s NBA career, spanning from 1989 to 2003, was distinguished by numerous individual and team achievements.

He earned a Master of Arts in Administration from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2011. His enduring basketball legacy is cemented by multiple Hall of Fame inductions: the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (individually in 2009, and as a member of the 1992 ‘Dream Team’ in 2010) and the FIBA Hall of Fame (individually in 2013, and as a member of the ‘Dream Team’ in 2017). Most recently, Robinson was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021 and inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2024, honoring his multifaceted achievements.
