American actor Claudia Christian has over 35 years of experience in film and television. She is perhaps best known for her role as Commander Susan Ivanova in Babylon 5, a multi-award-winning “space opera” sci-fi series. More recently, she has been voicing the character of Hera in Blood of Zeus, a Netflix animated series for adults that received rave reviews on its debut. She has appeared in many feature films, including cult Disney movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
Christian was born in California but raised between Connecticut and the UK. She first hit our screens in 1984 with one-off appearances in the likes of Dallas and Webster. The following year, she got her first major recurring role in the ambitious NBC soap opera Berrenger’s. She spent the first ten years of her career building a reputation with similar roles, but everything changed in 1994 with Babylon 5. Christian appeared in 87 episodes of the show, which ran for five seasons and won many awards — Christian herself was twice nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Genre TV Actress. After leaving the show, she became an in-demand actor for guest roles, appearing in everything from Nip/Tuck to NYPD Blue to The Mentalist.
Christian is a recovering alcoholic who has been open about her struggles with addiction. She is one of the most well-known advocates of The Sinclair Method of treatment and recovery and has written about it in her book Journeys. She has also given a TedX talk on the method, appeared before the US Senate, made a documentary (One Little Pill), and founded the C Three Foundation to raise awareness of the method and its benefits.
