Born on November 29, 1983, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Claudia O’Doherty developed her comedic talents from an early age. The daughter of artist and musician Reg Mombassa, she attended SCEGGS Darlinghurst and the University of Sydney, where she became involved in the Arts Revue. This period was formative, as she met collaborators Nick Coyle and Charlie Garber, with whom she performed under the name Pig Island, marking the beginning of her distinguished career in comedy.
O’Doherty’s professional journey gained significant momentum with her debut comedy show, “Monsters of the Deep 3D,” which earned her the Best Comedy Award at the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Festival and the Brisbane Comedy Festival Award. Her writing contributions extend to co-authoring “100 Facts About Pandas” and “100 Facts About Sharks.” In 2012, her stand-up show “The Telescope” was nominated for Best Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her transition to screen roles began with appearances in Australian television and a web series for Channel 4, which caught the attention of significant industry figures. This led to her casting in films such as “Trainwreck” (2015) and “The Inbetweeners 2” (2014), and a recurring role in “Inside Amy Schumer” (2015-2016), where she also contributed as a writer, earning an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing For A Variety Series in 2016.
Claudia O’Doherty achieved widespread recognition for her starring role as Bertie Bauer in the Netflix series “Love,” appearing in all three seasons from 2016 to 2018. Following this, she continued to expand her acting portfolio with roles in films like “Long Shot” (2019) and “Extra Ordinary” (2019). Her recent work includes playing Jillian Glopp in the sitcom “Killing It” (2022-2023) and voice roles in animated series such as “Bluey” (2020-2024), “Koala Man” (2023), and “Digman!” (2023). She has also appeared in several podcasts, including multiple guest spots on “Comedy Bang! Bang!,” demonstrating her versatility across various comedic platforms.
