Award-winning actress and singer Cleo Pires, known to her fans simply as ‘Cleo’, is one of Brazil’s most celebrated screen talents. She is most familiar for her starring roles in popular television shows such as Cobras & Lagartos and Araguaia, and films including Benjamin and Rio, I Love You.
Having previously appeared as a child in the mini-series Memorial de Maria Moura, Pires made her feature film debut in 2003 in Benjamin, based on the novel by Chico Buarque. Her work in the film earned her a Best Actress award at the Festival do Rio, and established her as one of Brazil’s most exciting young stars. She was later cast in the telenovelas América and Cobras & Lagartos, earning awards for her roles in both, and twice winning a Melhores do Ano and a Meus Prêmios Nick. She returned to the big screen in 2008’s smash hit Meu Nome Não É Johnny, which was one of Brazil’s official selection for that year’s Academy Awards, and the following year starred in the big budget biopic Lula: O Filho do Brasil.
Pires has continued to star in movies including the epic drama Time and the Wind, the international anthology film Rio, I Love You, the biopic Mais Forte que o Mundo, and the historical drama Resistance. On television, she has been seen in the supernatural series Araguaia, the telenovelas Haja Coração and Salve Jorge, and the anthology series As Brasileiras. A talented singer, Pires has recorded the EPs Jungle Kid and Melhor Que Eu, and starred in the music video for Gusttavo Lima and Hungary Hip Hop’s chart-topping single Eu Vou Te Buscar (Cha La La La La).
