Clyde Drexler

Clyde Drexler is an NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist who transitioned from a celebrated athlete to the commissioner of the Big3 basketball league. After achieving significant milestones during his collegiate career with the University of Houston’s renowned ‘Phi Slama Jama’ fraternity, Clyde Drexler made two Final Four appearances in 1982 and 1983. He earned the Southwestern Conference Player of the Year award and first-team All-American honors in his final season, and remains the only player in Houston’s history with combined totals of at least 1,000 career points, 900 rebounds, and 300 assists, while also standing as the school’s all-time steals leader with 268. His stellar performance led to his selection by the Portland Trail Blazers as the 14th overall pick in the 1983 NBA draft.

He later transitioned into a role as a color commentator for FSN Houston’s broadcast of NBA games, lending his expert analysis to a wider audience. A testament to his enduring impact on the sport, Drexler has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame twice: in 2004 for his individual career and again in 2010 as a member of ‘The Dream Team.’ He was also named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 and to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. In 2018, Drexler was appointed Commissioner of the Big3 3-on-3 basketball league, showcasing his leadership and commitment to the sport’s continued evolution.
