American artist, Colin Roberts, is famously known for his body of work sculptures, drawings and illustrations. Through his art, Roberts’ explores various themes of the human condition and of fragility. Roberts’ art can sometimes be perceived as surreal work, which in fact leads to the similarities between reality with original and disordered ideas. His aim is to have viewers question their thoughts and to have them think about a cultural, social or psychic process. Roberts’ began designing plexiglass “magic” pillows that withdraw light. He chose pillows as his art piece as it is something that all people use daily and it represents calm, sleep, relaxation of the body, mind and soul. Roberts’ has also created Tiny Men on Tits, Prosthetic Beings and Bubblewrap sculptures as part of his surreal creations. Roberts’ art however is not simply uncanny imagery; it also represents a careful balance between science, humor and horror, all so that the viewer can think on several different subjects, with a clearer mind. Roberts’ style also has the ability of crossing social and cultural boundaries. His art is exhibited in many galleries around the world. Robert’s has also collaborated with world’s leading designers and architects, including fashion designer Maison Marting Margiela and Johnston Marklee Architects. Roberts’ received a BFA from Otis School of Arts and Design in 2001.
