Comedy Bang! Bang! began as a radio show titled *Comedy Death-Ray Radio* on May 1, 2009, hosted by writer and comedian Scott Aukerman. Aukerman is known for his work on HBO’s *Mr. Show with Bob and David* and for co-founding the weekly *Comedy Death-Ray* stage show. Initially broadcast on Indie 103, the show transitioned to the Earwolf comedy podcasting network in 2010. On May 15, 2011, for its second anniversary, the show was rebranded as *Comedy Bang! Bang!*, a name suggested by Aukerman’s wife, Kulap Vilaysack.

The podcast features Scott Aukerman interviewing celebrity guests and comedians adopting various characters, often leading to improvised conversations and recurring bits. Between 2012 and 2016, the podcast also inspired a television series of the same name on IFC, hosted by Aukerman and featuring Reggie Watts, Kid Cudi, and “Weird Al” Yankovic as bandleaders. In 2021, Aukerman, alongside producer Brett Morris, launched Comedy Bang Bang World, a dedicated website and subscription platform. This platform hosts the podcast’s extensive archive, live performances, and new spin-off shows, demonstrating the brand’s continuous evolution in the comedy landscape. The show has received critical acclaim throughout its run, including winning two Academy of Podcasters Awards in the Comedy category.
