Craig Carton is a prominent figure in American sports radio, currently co-hosting the popular show “Carton and Roberts” on WFAN in New York City. His career began in 1991 at WGR Radio in Buffalo, where he quickly made a name for himself. Carton’s early work included a stint at WIP in Philadelphia, where he gained recognition as a weekend host known as “The Kid” and was the first to break the news of the Philadelphia Eagles’ sale to Jeffrey Lurie, showcasing his knack for impactful reporting.
In 2000, Carton transitioned to New York City, where he took over the morning show on WNEW-FM. His innovative approach included engaging stunts that captivated audiences, such as live broadcasts during significant events like the September 11 attacks. By 2007, he joined WFAN as the co-host of “Boomer and Carton,” which became the most listened-to show in the station’s history, particularly among men aged 25-54, demonstrating his ability to connect with listeners.
After a brief hiatus, Carton returned to WFAN in 2020, hosting the #1 rated afternoon-drive program alongside Evan Roberts. This achievement made him only the second broadcaster to host the top-rated shows in both morning and afternoon slots, a testament to his versatility and appeal in the industry.
In addition to his radio work, Carton hosts the podcast “Hello, My Name Is Craig,” focusing on gambling addiction and personal growth. His contributions to the field have been recognized with an upcoming induction into the NY State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as a dynamic force in sports broadcasting.
