Born Craig Phillip Robinson on October 25, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois, Robinson grew up on the South Side. His mother was a music teacher, and his father was an attorney. He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Music degree from Illinois State University in 1994 and a Master of Education from Saint Xavier University. Before dedicating himself to entertainment, Robinson worked as a music teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School in Chicago, and H.W. Eggers Middle School and East Chicago Central High School in Indiana. During his college years, he began exploring stand-up comedy and improvisation at The Second City in Chicago, laying the groundwork for his future career.
Robinson’s acting career gained significant traction with his recurring role as Darryl Philbin on the American television series “The Office” from 2005 to 2013, eventually becoming a starring cast member in the fourth season.
