Cristian Garin

Cristian Ignacio Garín Medone, born on May 30, 1996, in Santiago, Chile, turned professional in 2011. He quickly made a name for himself, becoming the youngest Chilean player to win an ATP Tour match at just 16 years and 8 months old. This early success was foreshadowed by his junior career, where he won the U14 world championship in 2010 and the 2013 Junior French Open, defeating future star Alexander Zverev in the final. These foundational achievements set the stage for his entry into the professional ranks, where he began to establish himself on the Challenger and Futures circuits.

Garin’s career progression saw him steadily climb the rankings. He entered the ATP rankings in February 2012 and made his Davis Cup debut that year. The period between 2014 and 2015 saw him break into the top 300, securing multiple Futures titles. In 2016, he claimed his first Challenger title in Lima, Peru, and by 2018, after winning three more Challenger titles, he broke into the top 100 at world No. 89. A turning point arrived in 2019 when he secured his first two ATP titles at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships and the BMW Open, followed by two more titles in February 2020 at the Córdoba Open and the Rio Open. This propelled him into the top 20, marking him as only the sixth Chilean man in history to achieve this.

Throughout his career, Garin demonstrated particular prowess on clay courts, where all five of his ATP Tour titles were won. He continued to reach significant stages in major tournaments, including the fourth round of the French Open and Wimbledon in 2021. In 2022, he achieved his first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon and also reached his third career Masters 1000 quarterfinals at the Italian Open. By 2023, he recorded his 100th career ATP singles match win and achieved his third top-5 win at the Indian Wells Masters, showcasing his continued competitive edge against top-ranked opponents.
