Dana Shultz – better known online as the Minimalist Baker – founded her website devoted to simple cooking with her husband in 2012. Her simple idea to make home cooking more approachable for everyone quickly evolved into something much bigger and her Instagram has amassed more than 2.1 million followers. All her recipes require 30 minutes or less to prepare and 10 ingredients or less, and she has since used her recipe development and writing skills to author two best-selling cookbooks, the 31 Meals Cookbook and Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking. Although Dana is still in charge of creative vision and is assisted by her husband John for all things business related and technical, Minimalist Baker is now a small team of people helping to make the website and social media pages a go-to destination for delicious, simple recipes.
Shultz comes from humble beginnings and grew up in a small village in Texas. She met her future husband John whilst studying in Wichita, and the young couple then stumbled across the creative scene after moving to Portland, Oregon. At first they both struggled to find work, so Schultz decided to get creative and discovered the world of blogging. After a few false starts, Schultz took a look at what was working and what wasn’t, and John helped his wife rebrand her blog to focus on quick, simple recipes. Schultz found the recipe for success with The Minimalist Baker, and the couple’s website and brand continues to grow.
