Daniel Gibson

Daniel Gibson was born on February 27, 1986, in Houston, Texas. He attended Jones High School in Houston, leading his team to a 31–4 record and the Texas Class 4A state title as a senior, marking the school’s first state championship since 1965. Academically, Gibson excelled, graduating sixth in his class and becoming a member of the National Honor Society. He then furthered his basketball career at the University of Texas at Austin, playing two seasons as a guard. During his college tenure, Gibson scored 935 points and made 175 three-point field goals. He earned recognition as the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2005 and was a two-time Third-team All-Big 12 selection in 2005 and 2006. He also set a school record with 101 three-pointers in the 2005–2006 season and was named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press after his sophomore year.

Gibson was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round, 42nd overall, of the 2006 NBA draft. He spent his entire seven-season NBA career (2006–2013) with the Cavaliers as a point guard and shooting guard. In his rookie year, he led all rookies in three-point field goal percentage at 41.9%. A significant career highlight came during the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals, where he scored a career-high 31 points in Game 6, securing the Cavaliers’ first NBA Finals appearance. During the 2007 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, Gibson averaged 10.8 points per game. He participated in the 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend, winning MVP of the Rookie Challenge with 33 points and placing second in the Three-point Shootout.

Following his NBA career, Gibson faced personal challenges, including injuries and depression, which led him to explore music as a coping mechanism. He has since engaged in various public endeavors, including touring internationally with other retired NBA players as part of the Champions Basketball League in 2017. He also appeared on reality television shows such as BET’s “Keyshia & Daniel: Family First” (2012), VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” (2017), and MTV’s “The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars” (2018). More recently, Gibson has re-engaged with basketball in a coaching capacity, working with the Cleveland Charge and collaborating on player training initiatives.
