Daniel Ståhl secured his position as a global leader in discus throw in June 2017 when he surpassed the Swedish national record with a mark of 71.29 meters, a distance unmatched globally since 2013. This pivotal achievement followed years of consistent progression on the international stage. Ståhl first competed at the World Youth Championships in 2009, followed by an appearance at the World Junior Championships in 2010. By 2013, he placed fourth in discus throw at the European U23 Championships.

Ståhl made a significant mark at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, finishing fifth. In 2016, he demonstrated his burgeoning potential by setting a new personal best and the world-leading throw for the year at the Swedish Championships, reaching 68.72 meters. Building on this momentum, Ståhl continued to collect accolades throughout 2017 and 2018. Following his record-breaking national throw, he earned a silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in London, narrowly missing the gold.
