The talented Darren Fletcher is a former professional footballer, who is now a coach as well as the technical director of Manchester United, a club where he spent most of his playing career.
Born in Dalkeith and raised near Edinburgh, Fletcher was playing youth football in Scotland when he was spotted and recruited to Manchester United’s Youth Academy in 1995. He broke into the senior team in 2003 and went on to make 342 appearances for the club, helping them to win five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. After 20 years with United he then joined West Bromwich Albion in 2015, where he made 97 appearances. In 2017 he then signed with Stoke City, before retiring from the game in 2019. In October 2020 he returned to United as a coach, working with their U-16s, before being appointed to the first team in January 2021. On the international stage, Fletcher made his debut for Scotland in 2003, and the following year he was named as their youngest captain for over a century. He went on to earn 80 caps for his country.
