David Cook rose to prominence as the winner of ‘American Idol’ season seven and has since built a career as a rock singer-songwriter, Broadway actor, and dedicated philanthropist. After winning ‘American Idol’ season seven on May 21, 2008, with 56 percent of the votes, David Cook instantly broke Billboard chart records by having 11 songs debut on the Hot 100, a feat that surpassed previous records. He quickly signed a major-label deal, releasing his self-titled debut album in November 2008. The album, certified platinum by the RIAA, featured hit singles such as ‘Light On’ and ‘Come Back to Me.’ Prior to his monumental television success, Cook cultivated his musical foundation, co-founding the band Axium, which released three studio albums including ‘Matter of Time,’ ‘Blindsided,’ and ‘The Story Thus Far.’ Following Axium’s disbandment in 2006, he became the bassist for Midwest Kings, contributing to their EP ‘Incoherent With Desire to Move On,’ and self-released his independent solo album, ‘Analog Heart,’ also in 2006.
Expanding his artistic repertoire beyond music, Cook made his acclaimed Broadway debut as Charlie Price in the Tony Award-winning musical ‘Kinky Boots’ in 2018. This same year, he released the EP ‘Chromance.’ In 2021, he continued to release new music with the EP ‘The Looking Glass.’ Alongside his artistic endeavors, Cook is a dedicated philanthropist, actively championing brain cancer research, a cause he has supported extensively through various initiatives. Cook continues to engage audiences with his compelling blend of rock and pop, with his latest EP, ‘The Hero,’ slated for release in 2025. His career as a recording artist, Broadway performer, and advocate underscores his multifaceted talent and enduring appeal across diverse entertainment platforms.
