Nathan Aspinall was born on July 15, 1991, in Stockport, England. His early athletic endeavors included semi-professional football as a goalkeeper, even being scouted by Manchester United’s academy. He initially turned down an offer from Rangers to pursue his football career locally with Stockport County’s academy until age 15, before joining Cheadle Town. Aspinall transitioned from working as a trainee accountant to becoming a professional darts player, beginning his journey in PDC Development and Challenge Tour events in 2012. He secured a two-year PDC Tour Card in 2015 via the Q School Order of Merit and made his first televised appearance in the 2015 PDC World Youth Championship final, where he was defeated by Max Hopp.
A significant turning point came in 2018 when Aspinall regained his Tour Card through Qualifying School. In September 2018, he won his first ranking Players Championship event. This was followed by a remarkable run to the semi-finals of the 2018/2019 World Championship as a 500/1 outsider. Aspinall continued this momentum by claiming his first televised title at the 2019 UK Open, where he defeated Rob Cross 11-5 in the final, sealing the victory with a 170 checkout. This achievement propelled him into the top 16 of the PDC Order of Merit. He further cemented his success by winning the 2019 US Darts Masters, his first World Series of Darts title.
Aspinall consistently performed at a high level, reaching the World Championship semi-finals again in 2020. He was also a finalist in the 2020 Premier League Darts, ultimately losing to Glen Durrant. Despite battling tendonitis in 2022 and admitting to having dartitis, Aspinall continued to achieve. He won two Players Championship titles in 2022 and reached the finals of both the World Grand Prix and the Grand Slam of Darts in the same year. His most significant career achievement to date is winning the 2023 World Matchplay, defeating Jonny Clayton 18-6 in the final. In 2025, he earned his first two European Tour titles, winning the European Darts Trophy and the European Darts Open, showcasing his continued dedication and skill in the sport.
