David Yost

David Yost was born on January 7, 1969, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During his early life, he relocated frequently across the United States, participating in numerous national gymnastics competitions, and achieving state championships in Iowa and Montana. He completed his high school education at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California, in 1987. Subsequently, he pursued higher education at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in communication and dramatic arts. Following his graduation, Yost moved to California to pursue an acting career, where he secured a significant role within three months.

Yost gained prominence for his portrayal of Billy Cranston, the Blue Power Ranger, in the television series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” He appeared in approximately 200 episodes across the first four seasons, being the only original cast member to feature in every episode of the initial series. His character, Billy, maintained his designation and did not transfer his power coins, unlike other original cast members. Yost extended his role to the film adaptation, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” (1995), a production that grossed over $60 million at the box office. When the series transitioned to “Power Rangers Zeo,” Yost continued as Billy Cranston, shifting his character’s role from a Power Ranger to a technical advisor.

After his departure from the Power Rangers series, Yost ventured into production, serving as an associate producer for the television films “After Diff’rent Strokes: When the Laughter Stopped” (2000) and “The Mary Kay Letourneau Story” (2000). He further developed his production skills on series such as “Alien Hunter” (2001) and “Temptation Island” (2001). Yost also served as a director of production for Sci-Fi Lab and a manager of licensing for Geneon, where he facilitated the sale of television shows and films to various networks. In 2016, he co-founded Affirmative Clothing, a company offering apparel inspired by “Power Rangers,” reflecting his continued connection to the franchise. He reprised his role as Billy Cranston in the 30th-anniversary Netflix special “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” (2023) and the series “Power Rangers Cosmic Fury” (2023).
