About

Dennis Gregory Pitta II was born on June 29, 1985, in Fresno, California. He attended Moorpark High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. Despite interest from several colleges, he walked onto the BYU Cougars football team as a wide receiver. He transitioned to tight end and earned a scholarship, showcasing significant potential early in his college career. Following a two-year hiatus for a mission in the Dominican Republic, Pitta returned to BYU, where he became a standout player. He earned consensus All-American honors in 2009 and concluded his college career holding records for career receptions and receiving yards for a tight end at BYU.

Pitta was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. His professional career began in 2010, and he quickly became a key offensive player for the Ravens. A significant career highlight was winning Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 with the Ravens, where he scored a touchdown. Throughout his NFL tenure, Pitta was known for his receiving abilities, accumulating 224 receptions and 2,098 receiving yards. His career was marked by resilience, particularly after multiple hip injuries, which he consistently attempted to overcome. His final season was in 2016, where he achieved career highs in receptions and receiving yards.

After retiring from professional football in 2017 due to recurring hip injuries, Pitta has engaged in other activities. He has lent his knowledge and experience to media, serving as a color commentator for Ravens radio broadcasts. He has also ventured into the business world, notably investing in the cleat company Caddix alongside former teammate Todd Heap, focusing on player safety and performance innovation. These post-NFL activities reflect his continued connection to the sport and his interest in entrepreneurial endeavors.
