Dino Ciccarelli owned the nightclub Club 22 in Shelby Charter Township, named for the jersey number he wore with the Capitals, Red Wings, Lightning and Panthers. It was closed in 2011. Shortly after closing, Ciccarelli opened a sports bar in the same location. The name of the establishment is Ciccarelli's Sports Bar Theater, named after the "theater" style atmosphere.
Dino Ciccarelli was born on February 8, 1960, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. His hockey career began in Sarnia’s minor hockey league before he joined the London Knights of the OMJHL at age 16. During the 1977-78 season, he led the league with 72 goals and accumulated 142 points in 68 games. An injury limited his play in the 1978-79 season, and he went undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft. Despite this, the Minnesota North Stars signed him as a free agent on September 28, 1979. He played the 1979-80 season with the London Knights, scoring 50 goals and 103 points.
Ciccarelli made his NHL debut with the Minnesota North Stars in the 1980-81 season, recording 18 goals and 30 points in 32 games. He made a significant impact in the 1981 Stanley Cup Playoffs, setting rookie records with 14 goals and 21 points, helping the North Stars reach the Final. The 1981-82 season marked his best offensive performance, with 55 goals and 106 points. He consistently scored at least 30 goals in seven of his nine seasons with the North Stars, including a career-high 52 goals in 1986-87. On March 7, 1989, he was traded to the Washington Capitals. He continued his high-scoring ways, notching 12 goals in 11 games to finish the 1988-89 season with 44 goals total, and followed with 41 goals in 1989-90.
His career also included stints with the Detroit Red Wings, who acquired him on June 20, 1992. With the Red Wings, Ciccarelli had his seventh 40-goal season in 1992-93 and scored his 500th NHL goal on January 8, 1994. He reached the Stanley Cup Final with Detroit in 1995. He then played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, acquired on August 27, 1996, and the Florida Panthers, joining them on January 15, 1998, where he scored his 600th NHL goal on February 3, 1998. Ciccarelli retired after the 1998-99 season with 1,200 points (608 goals, 592 assists) in 1,232 games. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010. He is one of only 17 players in NHL history with 600 goals, 1,200 points, and 1,200 games played, and notably the only undrafted player among them.
