Dominika Cibulkova

Dominika Cibulkova was born on May 6, 1989, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. She was introduced to tennis at age eight in Piešťany, and her family relocated to Bratislava when she was eleven. Early in her career, she competed on the ITF Women’s Circuit, securing two tournament wins: the Amarante event in Portugal in 2005 and the Bratislava event in 2006. She made her Grand Slam main-draw debut at the 2007 French Open, reaching the third round. In 2008, Cibulkova reached her first WTA Tour final at the Amelia Island Championships and later another at the Rogers Cup.

Her career highlights include reaching the semifinals of the French Open in 2009 and the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2010. In 2011, she secured her first WTA Tour title at the Kremlin Cup. A significant milestone occurred in 2014 when she reached the final of the Australian Open, becoming the first Slovak female to do so. In the same year, she won the Mexican Open and entered the WTA top 10 rankings. After undergoing Achilles surgery in 2015, Cibulkova made a strong comeback in 2016, winning four titles, including the WTA Finals in her debut appearance, and achieving a career-high ranking of world No. 5. She also won her first doubles title in 2017 at the Ricoh Open. By the end of 2019, she announced her retirement from professional tennis.

Throughout her career, Cibulkova was recognized for her aggressive playing style, characterized by speed, power, and quick racquet-head speed, enabling deep groundstrokes and powerful shots. She utilized tactical aggression in her game, often taking the ball early and approaching the net. Post-retirement, she opened her own tennis academy, Love4Tennis, in Bratislava, demonstrating her continued involvement in the sport. Her career prize money totaled $13,725,520.
