Dominique Jackson is an actress, model, author and reality TV star from Trinidad and Tobago, best known for playing the leading role of Elektra Abundance in the FX television series Pose. She has modelled for fashion designer Adrian Alicea and graced the pages of Vogue Espana. Jackson has also courageously spoken out about her mental health issues and her brave journey as a transgender woman.
Full of grit and determination to succeed, Jackson modelled for free when she first arrived in America from Trinidad and Tobago, choosing to wait for the right opportunities to come along before becoming one of New York City’s legendary entertainers, hosting club nights, pride festivals and fundraising events. In 2009, Jackson became a resident model for fashion designer Adrian Alicea and walked the catwalk at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Jackson made her 2009 TV debut in Christopher Street: The Series before landing various minor TV roles. Her big break came in reality television series Strut in 2016: her work on the series earned her a GLAAD Media Award nomination and led to an even bigger role appearing as Elektra Abundance in the FX series Pose in 2018. The critically acclaimed series, set in the gender non-conforming ballroom culture of New York City in the late 1980s, has just been renewed for a third season, receiving numerous award nominations including a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama Series.
In 2014 Jackson released her truthful and empowering autobiography, The Transsexual from Tobago. She continues to support several non-profit organizations, including Destination Tomorrow in the Bronx, a charitable group that supports the local LGBTQ community. She has been awarded several awards for her humanitarian work, including the coveted Jon Michael Harrington Humanitarian Award.
