Scarlet Envy is an American drag queen, television personality, singer, and performer, recognized for her appearances on multiple seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race and for advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and cancer awareness.
Scarlet Envy worked with Teen Cancer America, providing a digital makeup tutorial for young cancer patients. This initiative, initially planned as an in-person event, was adapted to a virtual format due to COVID-19, allowing 15 patients to participate.
In March 2023, Scarlet Envy partnered with Cornett, a Lexington-based advertising business, for a campaign supporting drag. The collaboration aimed to demonstrate company-wide support for drag in the workplace and community amidst legislative challenges in Kentucky.
In 2024, Scarlet Envy participated in the third annual Pride in Times Square, performing "Celebrate You!" alongside other RuPaul's Drag Race participants and TikTok influencer Gioconda. This performance was sponsored by ViiV Healthcare, a British pharmaceutical company specializing in HIV treatment.
Born Jacob James Grady in Louisville, Kentucky, on February 26, 1992, Scarlet Envy developed a unique artistic identity rooted in both drag performance and activism. Raised in Louisville by two mothers, both named Sherri, she was active in cross country for twelve years. Her early life included a period of conversion therapy during high school, which shaped her perspective and involvement in the LGBTQ+ community. She later moved to New York and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), graduating in 2014 with a BFA in advertising design. While in college, she began her drag career, hosting ‘Scarlet Fever’ in Brooklyn, New York, and becoming an active figure in the city’s nightlife scene.
Scarlet Envy gained widespread recognition through her participation in the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise. After four auditions, she was cast in the eleventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2019, winning a challenge and making a memorable impression. She later returned for the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2021 and the second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. the World in 2024, where she placed fifth. Her performance in UK vs. the World, particularly her acting challenge win and elevated runway looks, garnered significant fan support. Beyond competitive drag, Scarlet Envy has released music, including her single “All Night” in 2024, and a poetry book titled “She’s a Poet,” exploring themes of love, show business, and identity.
Her career extends to acting and advocacy. She appeared as Lana Del Slay in an episode of iCarly (2021 TV series) and performed as a dancer for Katy Perry’s “Swish Swish” on Saturday Night Live in 2017. In 2024, Scarlet Envy launched the 36-city “Bad Advice Tour,” a 90-minute live show featuring cabaret, poetry, and music, which received nominations for Best Show, Best Solo Debut, and Best Musical Comedy at the BroadwayWorld 2024 Cabaret Awards. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Scarlet Envy is actively involved in activism and volunteer work, partnering with organizations like Teen Cancer America to host virtual makeup tutorials for cancer patients and collaborating with Cornett, a Lexington advertising business, to support drag in Kentucky amidst anti-drag legislation.
