Scarlet Envy

Scarlet Envy is the stage name of Jacob James, a fabulously entertaining drag artist, TV personality, singer and performer. She is best known for her appearances on the reality TV shows RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, James was interested in glamour and design from a young age, and later attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City to study advertising design. He first discovered drag while at college, and entered a drag pageant and from there on decided to pursue a career as a drag artist under the name Scarlet Envy. In 2017 she played the title role of Yma Sumac in a stage production of The Legend of Yma Sumac in New York City, and appeared on the season finale of the late night comedy show Saturday Night Live. After auditioning four times, she was cast on season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2018. She released her first single, Feeling is Mutual, in 2019, and then returned to TV for 2021’s season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
