Dominique Reshard Rodgers-Cromartie, born on April 7, 1986, in Bradentown, Florida, began his journey in football with an impressive high school career at Lakewood Ranch, excelling as an All-Area, All-Class 5A, and All-District 11 defensive back and wide receiver. He continued his athletic and academic pursuits at Tennessee State University, playing for the Tennessee State Tigers football team from 2004 to 2007. During his collegiate career, Rodgers-Cromartie displayed exceptional talent, intercepting 11 passes and deflecting 25 more in 39 starts. His performance drew significant attention, especially after a standout showing at the Senior Bowl, where he was named defensive MVP and recorded one of the fastest 40-yard dash times (4.29 seconds) in NFL Combine history, solidifying his status as a top prospect.
Rodgers-Cromartie was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the first round (16th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft, marking him as the first player from a 1-AA school in eight years to be drafted in the first round. His rookie season with the Cardinals saw him make an immediate impact, recording four interceptions, including a memorable 99-yard pick-six against the St. Louis Rams. He quickly became a key player, helping the Cardinals reach Super Bowl XLIII in his inaugural year. Over his career, Rodgers-Cromartie became a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2009, 2015) and a Second-team All-Pro in 2016. He played for several NFL teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles (2011-2012), Denver Broncos (2013), and New York Giants (2014-2017), contributing consistently with his speed and coverage skills. He finished his NFL career with 30 interceptions, 535 interception return yards, and 7 defensive touchdowns.
After his NFL tenure, including short stints with the Oakland Raiders (2018) and Washington Redskins (2019), Rodgers-Cromartie made a notable return to professional football in 2023. He joined the Tampa Nightcrawlers of the A7FL, becoming the first major former NFL starter to sign with the league. In his debut game with the Nightcrawlers, he recorded 4 tackles in an 84-6 victory, leading the team to the Florida division title. His career reflects a sustained commitment to football, showcasing versatility and consistent performance across different levels of the sport.
