Don Johnson is the incredibly multitalented actor, producer, director, singer and songwriter best known for his appearance as James Crockett in the 1980’s classic crime television series Miami Vice, featuring in 110 episodes of the show and receiving a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance By An Actor In A TV Series in 1986, a nomination for the same category the following year and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1985. He is also known for his leading performance in the 1990’s police drama Nash Bridges. Labelled as a defining star of the eighties, Johnson has received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in recognition of his dedication to acting.
Miami Vice became a staple of eighties culture, Johnson being right in the centre, and so he became one of the premier faces of the Ray Ban brand of sunglasses, and Versace cited him as a major inspiration. He was also the first actor to ever use a Glock handgun in any media.
Aside from his acting career, Johnson is also an accomplished musician- he released two albums in the 1980s with his single Heartbeat reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, a follow up single Heartache Away reaching #5 on the same list the following year,and his duet with then partner Barbara Streisland, Till I Loved You, again appearing on the same chart in 1989, before being rereleased in 2002. Johnson enjoys boating too- in 1986, he scorts his first motor sport victory with a powerboat race win, and two years later was named the American Power Boat Associations World Champion of the Offshore World Cup.
