Don Mattingly

Don Mattingly has transitioned from an iconic MLB player and manager to a respected baseball advisor and coach, now offering invaluable insights into team dynamics and player development. After making his Major League debut with the New York Yankees on September 8, 1982, Don Mattingly quickly established himself as a premier talent in professional baseball. Drafted by the Yankees in the 19th round in 1979, Mattingly became the team’s full-time first baseman by 1984, winning the American League batting title with an impressive .343 average and leading the league with 207 hits. In 1985, he was named the AL Most Valuable Player, batting .324 with 35 home runs, a league-leading 145 RBIs, and 48 doubles.

He served as the hitting coach for the New York Yankees from 2004 to 2006, contributing to the team setting a franchise record of 242 home runs in 2004. He then moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers, first as hitting coach from 2008 to 2010, before being named manager in 2011. As manager for the Dodgers from 2011 to 2015, Mattingly successfully guided the team to three consecutive postseason appearances, demonstrating his strategic leadership and ability to foster competitive teams. In 2016, Mattingly took over as manager for the Miami Marlins, a position he held until 2022.

He was also inducted into the South Atlantic League Hall of Fame in 1994, the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, and the New York–Penn League Hall of Fame in 2015, further cementing his legacy as one of baseball’s most influential figures.
