Chloe Celeste Hosterman, known professionally as Dove Cameron, was born on January 15, 1996, in Bainbridge Island, Washington. She began her theatrical career at age eight, participating in community theater productions at Bainbridge Performing Arts. At 14, her family moved to Los Angeles, California, where she continued to pursue her passion for entertainment, singing in Burbank High School’s National Championship Show Choir. Cameron’s father passed away in 2011, and she legally changed her name to Dove Olivia Cameron in his honor, a nickname he used for her. Her early career highlights include playing Young Cosette in a 2007 BPA production of “Les Misérables” and Mary in “The Secret Garden” in 2008.
Cameron’s breakthrough came in 2012 when she was cast by Disney Channel. Initially in “Bits and Pieces,” the project evolved into “Liv and Maddie” (2013-2017), where she starred in the dual lead roles of Liv and Maddie Rooney. The series premiered to 5.8 million viewers, marking a significant milestone. During this period, she began her music career, releasing a cover of Imagine Dragons’ “On Top of the World” (2013) and her debut single “Better In Stereo” (2013), which topped the Billboard Kid Digital Songs chart. She starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie “Cloud 9” (2014) and gained further recognition with “Descendants” (2015), which yielded two Billboard Hot 100 entries, “Rotten to the Core” and “If Only.” The film’s soundtrack also reached number one on the Billboard 200.
Her career continued to expand with roles in “Hairspray Live!” (2016), “Descendants 2” (2017), and a recurring role as Ruby in Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (2018). In 2018, she voiced Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider in the “Marvel Rising” animated project. Cameron signed with Columbia’s Disruptor Records in 2018, releasing her debut double singles “Bloodshot” and “Waste” in 2019, followed by “So Good.” Her music flourished, leading to the viral hit “Boyfriend” (2022), which reached the top 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double platinum. She received the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist (2022) and the American Music Award for New Artist of the Year (2022). In 2023, she released her debut EP, “Alchemical: Volume 1,” and is set to star in the upcoming Prime Video series “56 Days.”
