About

Drew Barrymore was born on February 22, 1975, in Culver City, California, into a prominent acting family. Her early career began at a very young age, appearing in a dog food commercial at eleven months old. She gained widespread recognition at six years old for her role as Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” This breakthrough performance made her one of the most famous child actors of her generation and earned her a Young Artist Award for Best Young Supporting Actress. At seven, she became the youngest person to guest-host “Saturday Night Live.” In 1984, she starred in “Firestarter,” an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, and received her first Golden Globe Award nomination for “Irreconcilable Differences.”

After a period marked by personal challenges in her youth, Barrymore re-established her career in the mid-1990s with roles in films like “Poison Ivy” (1992), “Boys on the Side” (1995), “Batman Forever” (1995), and “Scream” (1996). She co-founded the production company Flower Films in 1995 with Nancy Juvonen, producing and starring in successful films such as “Never Been Kissed” (1999) and “Charlie’s Angels” (2000). Her collaborations with Adam Sandler in romantic comedies like “The Wedding Singer” (1998) and “50 First Dates” (2004) were also commercially successful. Barrymore made her directorial debut with “Whip It” in 2009, which received positive critical reception. She earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Film for her role as Edith Bouvier Beale in HBO’s “Grey Gardens” (2009).

From 2017 to 2019, Barrymore starred in the Netflix series “Santa Clarita Diet.” In 2020, she launched her syndicated daytime talk show, “The Drew Barrymore Show,” and expanded her business portfolio to include a range of cosmetics, wines, and homeware. She has also authored several New York Times bestselling books, including her memoir “Little Girl Lost” and the photobook “Find It in Everything.” In 2023, Barrymore was recognized as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, underscoring her enduring impact across entertainment and business.
