The fabulous Christopher James Gholson is better known in the music industry as Drumma Boy, the Grammy Award-winning producer, rapper, and entrepreneur. He also established the James and Christopher Gholson Scholarship Fund with his musician and retired music professor father, a grant that goes towards undergraduate and graduate students studying music at the University of Memphis.
Born and raised in Tennessee, Gholson was brought up in a musical family and was a classically trained musician from a very young age. He started making Hip Hop beats at the age of 12 and scored his first production placement on local radio with Memphis rapper Tela’s Double Dose. He attended the University of Memphis to study Music Business, and while there quickly established himself as a sought-after producer out of hours. His school attendances dropped off and he was expelled in 2004. He then relocated to Atlanta and set his sights on becoming a professional music producer and entrepreneur. He founded Drum Squad, an independent umbrella entertainment company encompassing Drum Squad Productions, a music production company representing producers and songwriters, the record label Drum Squad Records, and Drum Squad Films, a film production and distribution company. By 2008 he had become one of the most sought after Hip Hop producers in the industry. He won Best Indie Producer of the Year consecutively at the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Southern Entertainment Awards, and in 2010 produced Usher’s track Stranger from the Versus EP, which was released in conjunction with the deluxe edition of Raymond v. Raymond. The album won two Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Drumma Boy regularly connects with his hundreds of thousands of followers and fans through Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, posting pictures and videos about his life both in and out of the recording studio. He is also available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform, and has an official website, drummaboy.com.
