Duhan van der Merwe

Duhan van der Merwe has established himself as a prominent rugby union player, notably as Scotland’s all-time record try-scorer, bringing a unique blend of pace, power, and finishing ability to the wing position. After representing South Africa Schools in 2012 and 2013, scoring tries in international series against France and England, Duhan van der Merwe continued his impressive progression by joining the Blue Bulls’ academy in 2014. That same year, he played for South Africa Under-20s at the World Rugby U20 Championship, contributing to the team reaching the final. Following this, he moved to France, joining Montpellier in 2016, where he began his professional club career in Europe.

His exceptional form led to his selection for the prestigious British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa in 2021, where he featured in all three Tests. Following a period with Worcester Warriors, van der Merwe returned to Edinburgh Rugby in 2022, continuing to deliver impactful performances for his club. In 2024, he once again demonstrated his formidable try-scoring ability, securing a hat-trick against England during the Six Nations Championship. In July 2024, van der Merwe cemented his legacy by surpassing Stuart Hogg to become Scotland’s all-time leading international try scorer, a testament to his consistent impact and finishing prowess.

His continued elite performance was further recognized with his selection for a second British & Irish Lions tour in 2025, heading to Australia, affirming his status as one of the most exciting and effective wingers in international rugby.
