Dusan Lajovic

Dusan Lajovic was born on June 30, 1990, in Belgrade, Serbia. He began playing tennis at the age of seven and turned professional in 2007. Lajovic primarily competed on the Futures and Challenger circuits in his early career, gradually building his experience and ranking. His ATP Tour debut came in 2011 at the Kremlin Cup, and he subsequently reached his first career quarterfinal at the 2011 St. Petersburg Open. In 2012, Lajovic made his Davis Cup debut and won the Samarkand Challenger title, signifying his growing presence in professional tennis. By 2013, he contributed to Serbia’s Davis Cup finalist team, demonstrating his ability to perform on significant stages. Lajovic reached the fourth round of the French Open in 2014, his major debut, where he was defeated by Rafael Nadal. This marked an important milestone in his career, establishing his potential at Grand Slam events.

Throughout his career, Lajovic has demonstrated consistent progression, marked by significant achievements. In 2015, he secured his first ATP doubles title at the Istanbul Open with Radu Albot. His singles career saw multiple quarterfinal and semifinal appearances in ATP 250 and 500 events, including reaching the semifinals of the Brasil Open and Generali Open Kitzbühel in 2016. In 2018, Lajovic notably reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Masters, defeating world No. 6 Juan Martín del Potro. His breakthrough year came in 2019, where he made his maiden ATP Tour Masters 1000 final at the Monte-Carlo Masters and won his first ATP Tour singles title at the Croatia Open in Umag. This propelled him to a career-high singles ranking of world No. 23. Lajovic’s success continued in team competitions, as he played a key role in Serbia’s victory at the inaugural ATP Cup in 2020. He reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time at the 2021 Australian Open. In 2023, he claimed his second ATP singles title at the Banja Luka Open, defeating world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals, which was a career-defining win. He also competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, making his Olympic debut. Lajovic is recognized for his strong baseline game and one-handed backhand, particularly effective on clay courts.
