Dustin Poirier, known as ‘The Diamond’, is a former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion with a distinguished career marked by significant achievements and a strong commitment to philanthropy. After quickly establishing an undefeated 70 record in regional promotions in 2009, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier made his debut in World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) in 2010, securing a first-round TKO victory. His early professional journey was documented in the film ‘Fightville.’ Following the merger of WEC with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in late 2010, Poirier transitioned to the UFC, winning his debut against Josh Grispi by unanimous decision at UFC 125 in January 2011. Poirier’s UFC career saw him compete across Featherweight and Lightweight divisions, earning multiple ‘Fight of the Night’ and ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses.
He then challenged for the UFC Lightweight Championship against Charles Oliveira in December 2021, before rebounding with a submission win over Michael Chandler in November 2022, which also garnered a ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus. In March 2024, Poirier defeated Benoît Saint Denis via KO, earning another ‘Fight of the Night’ award, prior to his challenge for the UFC Lightweight Championship against Islam Makhachev in June 2024. Beyond his athletic achievements, Poirier is a dedicated philanthropist. In 2018, he and his wife founded The Good Fight Foundation, supporting causes such as aid for a deceased police officer’s family, the Acadiana Outreach Center, and providing backpacks for schoolchildren.
A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Poirier concluded his decorated mixed martial arts career, retiring in July 2025 after his trilogy bout against Max Holloway at UFC 318.
