Dwier Brown was born on January 30, 1959, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in Sharon Center, Ohio. He later graduated from Ashland University. Brown began his acting career in the 1980s, gaining early stage experience in Chicago with the Organic Theater, where he was cast in the world premiere stage adaptation of Mary Renault’s novel “The King Must Die.” He performed in repertory with “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” both directed by Stuart Gordon, laying a foundation for his extensive career in film and television.

Brown’s career spans several decades, featuring appearances in over 50 film and television productions. He is widely recognized for his role as John Kinsella, Kevin Costner’s father, in the iconic 1989 film “Field of Dreams.” His filmography also includes horror genre entries such as “House” (1986) and its sequel “House II: The Second Story” (1987), as well as the William Friedkin-directed “The Guardian” (1990), where he played the male lead, Phil Sterling. Other notable film credits include “To Live and Die in L.A.” (1985), “The Cutting Edge” (1992), “Gettysburg” (1993), and “Red Dragon” (2002).

In addition to his film work, Brown has appeared in numerous television series, including “Quantum Leap,” “Firefly,” “Criminal Minds,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Private Practice,” “Ironside,” and “Rizzoli & Isles.” In 1998, he played Henry Mitchell in “Dennis the Menace Strikes Again.” Beyond acting, Brown is an author, having written the critically acclaimed memoir “If You Build It…”, which explores themes of fathers, fate, and his experiences with “Field of Dreams.” He continues to engage with audiences through speaking engagements, sharing insights from his career and book.
