Dylan Lauren, born on May 9, 1974, in New York City, is the daughter of American fashion designer Ralph Lauren. She graduated from Duke University, where she studied art history and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Her early life and education provided a foundation that would later influence her entrepreneurial endeavors, specifically her approach to merging different creative fields with business. Lauren’s inspiration for her distinctive retail concept stemmed from watching “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” at six years old, which sparked a lifelong ambition to create a unique candy experience.
In 2001, Dylan Lauren founded Dylan’s Candy Bar, aiming to create the “largest unique candy store in the world.” Her vision was to blend fashion, art, and pop culture with confectionery, offering over 7,000 candies from various global sources. The initial design and image for Dylan’s Candy Bar were developed by Creative Director Mayumi Ando. Over the years, the company expanded its presence with locations in cities like New York City, East Hampton, and Los Angeles, alongside several airport outposts and wholesale venues. She has also been recognized for her style, being named one of the Top 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers by US Weekly in 2007, reflecting her influence beyond the confectionery industry.
Lauren has expanded her brand and career trajectory through various initiatives. In 2010, she released the book “Dylan’s Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life.” In December 2015, she established Dylan’s Candy BarN, a granting foundation dedicated to supporting animal welfare organizations, partnering with various animal rescues. From 2017, Dylan Lauren served as a judge on the ABC reality series “The Toy Box.” While Dylan’s Candy Bar reached a peak of over twenty locations, some flagship stores, including the Upper East Side location in New York, closed in 2021, and locations in Miami and Honolulu also ceased operations. Despite these closures, the brand actively pursued collaborations, such as the 2025 partnership with “Wheel of Fortune” for a themed candy collection.
