Edward Howard “Eddie” Lucas is a retired professional basketball player whose journey through sports and engineering showcases his diverse talents and dedication. Lucas began his basketball career at Redlands High School, where he earned the title of Most Valuable Player and averaged an impressive 20.2 points per game. He continued to excel at the United States Naval Academy, receiving All League Patriot Honors during his sophomore year, before transferring to Virginia Tech. At Virginia Tech, he led the Hokies in scoring with an average of 15.1 points per game in his senior season, all while majoring in civil engineering, demonstrating his ability to balance athletics and academics.
In 1999, Lucas was selected as the final pick in the NBA draft by the Utah Jazz, marking a significant milestone in his professional career. Although he did not play in the NBA, he showcased his skills internationally, playing for teams in Argentina, France, Russia, Israel, and Poland. Notably, while with Hermine de Nantes Atlantique in France, he averaged 18.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, highlighting his scoring ability and efficiency on the court.
After retiring from basketball, Lucas transitioned into the field of civil engineering, earning a master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a specialty in Construction Management from Virginia Tech. He co-founded Interactive Drills, an athletic training company, where he applies his sports expertise to help develop the next generation of athletes.
Currently residing in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Lucas serves as a production manager for Highland Construction. His multifaceted career reflects his commitment to excellence, whether on the basketball court or in the construction industry, making him a respected figure in both fields.
