Edival Pontes

Edival Pontes is an Olympic medalist and a highly decorated taekwondo athlete from Brazil, known for his multiple Pan American titles and World Championship silver. After becoming a junior world champion at the 2014 World Juniors Taekwondo Championships and securing a gold medal at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing in the 63 kg category, Edival Pontes rapidly established himself as a dominant force in international taekwondo. His early senior career continued this trajectory, earning a silver medal at the 2016 Pan American Taekwondo Championships in the 68 kg category, followed by a gold medal at the 2018 Pan American Taekwondo Championships in the same division. Pontes achieved a significant milestone for Brazilian taekwondo at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, where he clinched a gold medal in the 68 kg category, breaking a 12-year gold medal drought for Brazil in the sport at the event.

He further contributed to his national team’s success by winning a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games as part of the Men’s Kyorugi team. In 2024, Edival Pontes made history at the Paris Summer Olympics, earning a bronze medal in the Men’s -68kg event. This achievement positioned him as the third Brazilian to ever secure an Olympic taekwondo medal, underscoring his lasting legacy in the sport.
