Eka Darville

Eka Darville was born on April 11, 1989, in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. He attended Byron Bay High School and currently divides his time between Byron Bay, New South Wales, and Sydney. Darville is of Jamaican and Canadian heritage, with his father being reggae artist Ray Darwin. His upbringing encouraged creativity, with his mother and stepfather fostering his artistic interests, including a year living in a West African village when he was five. Darville’s early career began in Australian television, leading to significant roles that established his presence in both domestic and international productions.

Darville’s professional acting career commenced in the mid-2000s. He gained recognition with his role as Adam Bridge in the Australian television drama series “Blue Water High” in 2008. The following year, he starred as Scott Truman, the Red Ranger, in the popular children’s action series “Power Rangers RPM” (2009). His career progressed with a recurring role as Pietros in “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” (2010), and as Taylor in “The Elephant Princess” (2011). These early roles provided a foundation for his transition into more prominent and diverse acting opportunities in both film and television.

A significant turning point in Darville’s career involved his work in various American television series. He was cast as Diego in “The Originals”, appearing in 13 episodes between 2013 and 2014, and also had a recurring role as Ryan Morgan in “Empire” in 2015. Darville is widely known for his main role as Malcolm Ducasse in Netflix’s “Jessica Jones,” a character he portrayed across 35 episodes from 2015 to 2019, and also reprised in “The Defenders” (2017) for 4 episodes. His film credits include “The Sapphires” (2012) as Hendo, “Mr. Pip” (2012) as Pip, “Her Smell” (2018) as Ya-ema, and more recently, a motion-capture role as Sylva in “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (2024).
