Elle Mills

Elle Janette Mills, born on July 17, 1998, in Manila, Philippines, was raised in the Canadian National Capital Region. Her journey into content creation began at the age of eight, making home videos. In high school, she found inspiration in the work of Grace Helbig and Casey Neistat, which propelled her towards a career on YouTube. Her family, including her mother Janette Prejola and younger brother Jay Mills, frequently appeared in her early videos, contributing to her unique content style.

Mills launched her YouTube channel, ElleOfTheMills, in 2012. Her subscriber count saw significant growth in 2017 with her coming-of-age videos. A notable turning point was her November 2017 coming out video, where she shared her bisexual identity, which helped her surpass one million subscribers. In June 2017, she signed with Fullscreen, leading to her first tour in the spring of 2018. By the end of 2017, her channel had over 915,000 subscribers, reaching 1 million by February 2018. She was recognized for her achievements, winning the “Breakout YouTuber” category at the 10th Shorty Awards in 2018. Later that year, in December 2018, she signed with United Talent Agency.

Despite her success, Mills experienced mental and emotional challenges from the demands of consistent content creation, leading her to take a break from YouTube in May 2018 after a mental breakdown. She resumed her channel a month later. In 2023, Mills publicly announced her decision to step back from her YouTube career to prioritize writing and directing full-time. This transition marks a significant shift in her career, moving from vlogging to narrative filmmaking, including her LGBTQ romantic short film “Reply.”
