Elliott Himmelberg is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Growing up in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Himmelberg developed a passion for the game early on. In 2016, he moved to Brisbane, Queensland, where he began playing for Redland, showcasing his skills as a promising young talent.
In 2017, Himmelberg made a significant impact in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), playing 13 games and kicking 19 goals, including a standout performance where he scored four goals in round 12 against the Port Adelaide Magpies. Unfortunately, his progress was hampered by a foot injury in July that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. However, his potential did not go unnoticed, and in 2018, he signed a two-year contract extension with Adelaide, securing his future with the club until 2020.
That same year, Himmelberg was named in the Adelaide squad for the inaugural AFLX tournament and served as an emergency for the JLT Community Series. He took on a more prominent role as a ruckman in the SANFL, particularly due to injuries affecting fellow key-position players Paul Hunter and Reilly O’Brien.
Himmelberg made his AFL debut in round 23 against Carlton at Docklands Stadium, where he recorded 13 disposals, five marks, and kicked his first goal with an impressive banana shot. His performance earned praise from coach Don Pyke, who noted that he “didn’t look out of place at all.” As Himmelberg continues to develop his game, he aims to make a significant impact in the AFL and contribute to Adelaide’s success.
