Emily Coutts

Emily Coutts is a Canadian actress known for her role as Lt. Keyla Detmer in the Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Discovery.” After being cast as Lt. Cmdr. Keyla Detmer in Paramount+’s STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, Emily Coutts went on to portray the fan-favorite character across 52 episodes from 2017 to 2024, earning wide critical recognition.

Prior to her breakthrough role, Coutts honed her craft, earning a BFA in acting from York University. She began her professional acting career in 2011 with an appearance in ‘The Bright Side of the Moon.’ Early in her career, she built a strong resume with roles in television series such as ‘The L.A. Complex’ (2012), ‘Transporter: The Series’ (2012), and ‘The Next Step’ (2013). Her film credits included Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak’ (2015).

In 2023, she directed, produced, and wrote the short film ‘They Choose You.’ This was followed by her work as director, executive producer, and writer for the 2024 short film ‘Rosebud.’ Currently, Emily Coutts is actively developing her first feature film, underscoring her ongoing commitment to all facets of film and television production and her evolution as a multi-hyphenate talent in the industry.
