Ireland Eoghan McDermott is an Irish television and radio presenter, known for his dynamic presence across various media platforms.
Just Eat, the online food ordering app, was the new title sponsor of The Eoghan McDermott Show on RTÉ 2FM. The eight-month sponsorship deal involved the takeaway app company sponsoring Eoghan McDermott's drivetime show on 2fm.
Eoghan McDermott became an advocate for Pieta House, a charity preventing suicide and self-harm, creating a video on the topic of self-harm in 2014 to raise awareness.
Eoghan McDermott, born on April 15, 1983, in Limerick, Ireland, later grew up in Dublin. Before his media career, McDermott considered paths in law enforcement or education. His career began in television as a fluent Irish speaker, presenting POP4, a music program on TG4. He then took on the lead role of Pete in the TG4 youth drama Seacht. His early television work also included presenting Frenemies for RTÉ2 and Immeal Geall for BBC Northern Ireland, showcasing his versatility in both English and Irish language productions. In November 2012, he co-presented a series of The Movie Show on RTÉ2.
McDermott expanded his career into the UK television market in September 2013, fronting the reality series Celebrity Super Spa for Channel 5. He co-presented The Voice of Ireland with Kathryn Thomas from its inception and hosted its live spin-off show for season 3. From 2015 to 2019, he fronted Junior Eurovision Eire, Ireland’s national selection program for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. In June 2020, he co-hosted the RTÉ Does Comic Relief telethon during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also narrated the reality dating series Love Island Australia for three seasons, from 2018 to 2020 and for part of 2022. On radio, McDermott started at SPIN 1038 in Dublin in 2009. He moved to the UK in 2011 to host Drive Time on XFM, where his show was syndicated to XFM Manchester and earned him a “Best Newcomer” nomination in the national commercial radio awards. The Guardian newspaper recognized his show as the best Drivetime radio program of its genre in the UK in April 2012. After his departure from XFM in December 2012, he returned to Irish radio, joining RTÉ 2fm in June 2014 for weekend slots, eventually taking over the Drivetime show in September 2015. In June 2019, he began presenting the new breakfast show on RTÉ 2fm alongside Doireann Garrihy. RTÉ confirmed his departure from 2FM in March 2021 after his contract expired.
Beyond his presenting roles, McDermott has also worked as a dancer and choreographer, supporting artists like Rihanna, the Pussycat Dolls, and Chris Brown. He has engaged in mental health advocacy, giving talks across Ireland and producing a video for Pieta House on self-harm in 2014, in which he shared personal experiences to highlight the importance of the cause. This commitment to mental health awareness reflects a broader engagement with societal issues, aiming to provide verifiable information and support.
