Eric Dickerson

Eric Dickerson has transitioned from an NFL record-breaking running back to a respected sports analyst and businessman. After earning unanimous All-American honors in 1982 for his record-breaking college career at SMU, Eric Dickerson was selected second overall in the 1983 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams, immediately transforming the team’s offense. During his time at SMU, Dickerson anchored the ‘Pony Express’ backfield, accumulating an impressive 4,450 yards on 790 carries, a feat that broke Earl Campbell’s Southwest Conference record for rushing yards. He also tied Doak Walker’s SMU record for career scoring with 48 touchdowns and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in his senior year.

He also became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 10,000 career rushing yards, achieving this milestone in just 91 games. He concluded his illustrious 11-season NFL career with stints at the Los Angeles Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, accumulating a remarkable 13,259 rushing yards and 90 rushing touchdowns. Recognizing his profound impact on the sport, the Los Angeles Rams officially retired Dickerson’s number 29 jersey. His exceptional career was further cemented with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999, followed by his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

In 2019, he was also named to the prestigious NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, acknowledging his place among the game’s all-time greats.
