He led the Penn State Nittany Lions to an undefeated season in 1994, which culminated in a Rose Bowl victory. This early success set the stage for a lengthy and impactful professional career.

His NFL journey began in 1995 when he was drafted as the first-ever selection for the Carolina Panthers, fifth overall. Collins played for six NFL teams, including notable stints with the Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, and Tennessee Titans. A career highlight includes leading the New York Giants to Super Bowl XXXV. He also earned a second Pro Bowl selection in 2008 while with the Tennessee Titans, contributing to their league-best 13-3 record that season.
