Erik van Rooyen is a professional golfer hailing from South Africa. Born on 21st February, 1990 in Cape Town, Erik exhibited a keen interest in golf at a young age and, with the support of his family, began playing competitively in his teenage years.
In 2009, Erik received a scholarship to study at the University of Minnesota where he continued to hone his golfing skills. After graduating, he turned professional and in 2014, he gained his playing rights on the Sunshine Tour. The following year, Erik won his first professional tournament, the BMG Classic, and has since gone on to amass numerous victories.
In 2017, Erik earned his European Tour card, and has been playing on the tour ever since. He first gained international recognition in 2018 when he finished fourth in the Joburg Open and went on to secure his best European Tour finish at the same tournament in 2019, where he finished tied for 2nd place.
Erik’s consistent performance on the European Tour earned him a spot in the 2019 Presidents Cup team which saw him go head to head against some of the world’s best golfers at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. In 2020, Erik made his debut appearance at the US Open Championship, where he finished in a highly respectable tie for 23rd place.
