Esteban Manuel Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, born on August 5, 1991, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, developed an early passion for motorsports through karting. In 2007, he transitioned to single-seater racing in the Formula BMW USA series, where he secured four wins and eight podiums, earning him Rookie of the Year honors. His success continued in 2008 when he won the Formula BMW Europe championship, becoming the youngest Mexican driver to achieve an international championship title at 17 years old. He then advanced to the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2009 with ART Grand Prix, achieving two podium finishes. The following year, 2010, marked a significant milestone as he dominated and won the inaugural GP3 Series season with five wins and eight podiums.
His progression continued in the GP2 Series, where he raced from 2011 to 2012, eventually finishing third in the 2012 championship with three wins and seven podiums. This performance positioned him as the first GP3 graduate to reach the top three in the GP2 parent series. Gutiérrez made his Formula One debut in 2013 with Sauber, and in 2014, he remained with the team. A significant career turning point came in 2015 when he joined Scuderia Ferrari as their test and reserve driver. He returned to a full-time F1 race seat in 2016 with the Haas F1 Team, marking his last active season as a Formula One race driver.
After his F1 racing career, Esteban Gutiérrez diversified his professional activities. He competed in Formula E during the 2016–2017 season with Techeetah and in the IndyCar Series in 2017 with Dale Coyne Racing. Since 2018, he has been involved with Mercedes-AMG as a simulator, reserve, and development driver, ultimately becoming a brand and business ambassador for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team in 2021. In addition to his ambassadorial role, he has embraced entrepreneurship, founding EDASI Drive, a licensed Formula One merchandise distributor for Latin America.
