Eugene Lee Yang is a prominent filmmaker, actor, author, activist, and internet personality, recognized for his impactful digital content and advocacy. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in cinema production in 2008, Eugene Lee Yang honed his skills through five years of freelance work, producing music videos and commercials. In 2013, he joined BuzzFeed’s video division, quickly gaining recognition for experimental productions that blended humor with poignant social commentary.

Yang played a key role in this move as the first ‘Try Guy’ to complete his contract transition, and the group further cemented their status with the release of their New York Times Best Seller book, ‘The Hidden Power of Fcking Up,’ in 2019. Expanding his creative footprint, Yang made a guest appearance on the NBC sitcom ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ in 2019. The same year, he released a powerful music video that served as his public coming out, inspiring fans globally and raising over $150,000 for The Trevor Project. Continuing his commitment to social advocacy, Yang, with The Try Guys, endorsed Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.

In 2021, he produced the impactful fundraising documentary ‘We Need To Talk About Anti-Asian Hate.’ His versatility as a performer was showcased with his voice role as Ambrosius Goldenloin in the animated Netflix film ‘Nimona,’ released in 2023. Most recently, in May 2024, Yang announced a strategic shift from actively participating in ‘The Try Guys’ day-to-day activities to dedicate more time to independent artistic ventures, while retaining co-ownership of 2nd Try LLC and contributing creatively. Looking ahead, Yang is set to release his debut Young Adult fiction novel, ‘The Unders,’ in 2025, marking a significant expansion of his storytelling into the literary world.
