Faran Tahir

Faran Haroon Tahir was born in Los Angeles, California, to a theatrical family with roots in Pakistan and India. His parents, both actors, directors, and writers, were studying at the UCLA Theatre Department at the time of his birth. He returned to Los Angeles at the age of 17 in 1980. Tahir pursued higher education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree, and subsequently obtained a graduate degree from the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University. His career began with his film debut as Nathoo in Disney’s 1994 film “The Jungle Book.”

Over his career, Tahir has accumulated a diverse filmography. He played the villain Raza in the 2008 Marvel film “Iron Man,” a role that marked his entry into the superhero genre. The following year, in 2009, he appeared as Captain Robau in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek.” His work continued with a significant role as President Patel in the 2013 science-fiction film “Elysium,” alongside actors like Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. Beyond film, Tahir has made numerous guest appearances on television series, including “Alias,” “Lost,” “24,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Supernatural,” and “Hawaii Five-0.” He has also taken on recurring roles in shows such as “Warehouse 13” and “Dallas.”

In 2016, Tahir took on the lead role of Othello in a production by the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., demonstrating his continued engagement with classical theater. He further expanded his television presence with roles in “American Crime” as Rhys Bashir and Captain Nemo on “Once Upon a Time.” His work includes voice acting for video games like “Dead Space” (2023) and animated films such as “Injustice” (2021), where he voiced Ra’s al Ghul. Faran Tahir’s career reflects a consistent progression across varied platforms, showcasing his adaptability as an actor.
