About

Franco Colapinto was born on May 27, 2003, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His motorsport journey began early, with competitive kart racing at age nine. He quickly distinguished himself, securing multiple regional and national championships in Argentina. In 2018, at the age of 14, Colapinto moved to Italy to further his racing career, making his car racing debut in the F4 Spanish Championship, where he achieved a victory in his very first event. The following year, he secured the 2019 F4 Spanish Championship title with Drivex, winning 11 races and obtaining 13 podiums. This early success laid a foundation for his progression through single-seater categories.

Colapinto’s career continued to develop with strong performances in the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Toyota Racing Series in 2020, where he finished third overall in both championships. Transitioning into sportscar racing in 2021, he competed in the Asian Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He secured multiple podiums and a victory in the European Le Mans Series. He then returned to single-seaters, joining the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2022. In his rookie F3 season, he recorded two wins and five podiums, finishing ninth in the standings. He improved to fourth overall in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship with MP Motorsport, achieving two more wins and five podium finishes.

His connection with Formula 1 began in 2023 when he joined the Williams Driver Academy, making his F1 free practice debut at the 2024 British Grand Prix. Later in 2024, Colapinto was promoted to a full-time F1 race seat with Williams, replacing Logan Sargeant for the remainder of the season. During this period, he became the first Argentine F1 driver in 23 years, scoring points at the Azerbaijan and United States Grands Prix. For 2025, he signed with Alpine as a reserve driver and was subsequently promoted to a race seat for several Grand Prix events, continuing his journey in the sport at the highest level. These career milestones demonstrate his consistent performance and upward trajectory in professional motorsport.
