Dalton Douglas Knecht was born on April 19, 2001, in Fargo, North Dakota, and grew up in Thornton, Colorado. He attended Prairie View High School, where he showcased significant growth in his basketball abilities, both physically and skillfully. During his time in high school, Knecht developed from a 5’8″ sophomore to a 6’1″ junior, averaging 21 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a senior. These early years established a foundation for his future in basketball.
Knecht began his college basketball career at Northeastern Junior College. Over two seasons, he continued to develop, increasing his height to 6’6″ and improving his statistics significantly. He averaged 13.3 points per game as a freshman and 23.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game as a sophomore. This performance led to his transfer to Northern Colorado, where he continued to excel, leading the Big Sky Conference with 20.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a senior. His collegiate career culminated at the University of Tennessee for the 2023–24 season, where he earned Consensus First-Team All-American honors, the Julius Erving Award, and was named SEC Player of the Year.
In the 2024 NBA Draft, Dalton Knecht was selected 17th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. He quickly made an impact, debuting on October 22, 2024. During his rookie season, Knecht demonstrated his scoring potential by setting multiple career highs, including 37 points and nine three-pointers in a single game against the Utah Jazz on November 19, 2024. His consistent performance and scoring ability have established him as a notable player in the league, with averages of 9.1 points per game and 37.6% from three-point range in his first season.
